Take a bow

Influential artists, interior and fashion designers are inspiring us to dress up this summer and to ‘put a bow on it’. After the success of the Netflix series Bridgerton, Regency fever has well and truly taken hold with flamboyant bows and stripes.

Dunrobin Castle attic sale

When a press release dropped into my inbox for a forthcoming attic sale at Dunrobin Castle in Sutherland, I think my jaw also dropped, just ever so slightly. Sales like this don’t happen very often. A recent decluttering of the attics and cellars at the Scottish castle revealed generations of long forgotten treasures of domestic life. Prior to the sale on 20 April 2021, Bonhams auctioneers in Edinburgh have curated a selection of some of the 450 lots with an evocative set of photos.

Lockdown interior decorating ideas

Spring/Summer 21 interior designs offer more than a little playful joie de vivre for any lockdown decorating plans you might have. There are styling surprises at every turn from secret doors to extravagant country house style fabric canopies for both bed and bathrooms. No surface has been left untouched with decorative tromp l’oeil and room wrap-around wallpaper. There’s colour inspiration from artists and a final ingredient alongside all the frills is a spot of ‘matchy matchy’ styling.

New Morris and Co x Ben Pentreath collection

It is the launch the interiors world has been waiting for ever since it was first rumoured that such creativity was afoot. I don’t think it would be overcooking it to say that The Queen Square Collection between Morris & Co and architectural design and interior Decorator Ben Pentreath is one of the most exciting interior brand collaborations in recent times. The collection of 18 recoloured William Morris wallpaper and 18 fabric designs has been styled and photographed at Ben’s beautiful and famously ‘grammed Dorset rectory.

Interiors staying connected

‘Staying In’ has offered unexpected positives, one of them is having time to think about what’s important. In these very difficult times, it has been lovely to see so many acts of human kindness and creativity. It has also been inspiring to see the interiors industry getting supportive with webinars and even a new charity aimed at giving NHS heroes, interior designed havens to come home to. I thought I would share with you some of the creative Staying-In inspiration that has caught my eye these past few weeks.

Fresh frills at London Design Week 2020

There is no getting away from the fact that I was ‘frilled’ to see the New Year’s Day prediction blog realised this week in G P & J Baker’s showroom set. Designed by interior designer Emma Sims-Hilditch, her 21st Century take on an English country house bedroom formed one of the main ‘curated spaces’ at The Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour for London Design Week (8 – 13 March 2020).

Bespoke antique boxes

I was about to post another story on the blog when this ‘jewel’ caught my eye. The front page was instantly put on hold and the blog cogs screeched to a halt. It was obvious that Emily Gore’s new bespoke jewellery box company Woodbury and Coย  should be the front page story.
