The UK is now a thriving nation of shopkeepers, albeit vintage and antique ones. From traditional high street shops to online, outdoor markets and brocantes, this vibrant retail scene is responding to the joy and sustainability of including antiques and vintage in a decorating scheme. *The White Door Brocante (no relation), now in its third year, is a must-see event taking place on 9th June 2022 in Purley-on-Thames, West Berkshire.

White Door Brocante

It is luckily on home turf for me but people visit it from all over the UK for its well-curated selection of talented stall holders. This year we can look forward to affordable antique and vintage goods including furniture, gardenalia, home accessories, old linens and textiles.

The White Door Brocante was established in 2019 by Elise McGreevy-Harris who runs White Door Antiques from a stall at The Lamb Arcade in Wallingford and by appointment from home in Pangbourne.

Elise says, “My love of antiques comes from helping my father move furniture around when I was young. He was a big collector and later a dealer too. When we moved to Pangbourne I was looking for ways to furnish the house and it seemed to me that old things often represented the best value for money as well as looking different. The business was born from that really. In my own home I must have around 50/60% old things as I have been lucky enough to inherit a lot of pieces as well as sourcing them myself.”

This year, there will be a variety of 28 stall holders with a cafe serving refreshments including yummy cakes and lunch, making it a lovely day out for friends and family.

The White Door Brocante is on Thursday 9th June at The Barn, Goosecroft Lane, Off Beech Road, Purley-on-Thames, Berkshire, (13 minutes from Junction 12 of the M4). Car sat nav: RG8 8DR takes you to Goosecroft Lane or Google Maps: RG8 8BW takes you to the adjacent cricket ground. Free parking next to the barn. Open from 10.30am to 3.30 pm. Tickets are £5 either in advance via the White Door Brocante website or on the door.
