You may think that the hottest ticket in town this Summer is a ticket for the main stage at the Reading Festival – but that’s maybe where you are wrong. It is, in fact, a parking place for a visit to Reading’s long awaited and newly opened IKEA store. Oh yes … If you are lucky enough to bag that parking place and make it through the entrance hall and up to the restaurant, if I am honest, securing a table next to an ‘A lister’ at The Ivy would be more achievable right now than enjoying your plate of meatballs at Reading IKEA. It is super busy!
When we bought our tired 1930s house I knew it had potential and it came with quite a sizeable established garden, a converted garage, a very useful but slightly ugly pebble dashed workshop and … ahem … an outside bar …
It’s impossible not to be inspired by the sheer beauty and extravagance at The Chelsea Flower Show where nature has been so expertly tamed. I adore this show and gain so many ideas which are endlessly useful for styling. Flowers and plants are perhaps second only to a good pair of scissors in the essential ‘interior stylist’s kit’.
If pushing the boundaries is your thing and having a decorating scheme that makes your heart skip a beat every time you walk in a room, then this one could be one for you. ‘Modern Glam’ certainly has the ‘It Factor’ and cries out to be noticed.
What does an image of a ‘drinks cabinet or trolley’ say to you? Do you perhaps cringe at the thought of 1950s boat-shaped drinks cabinets (complete with porthole windows and bar) that were too large for the domestic spaces they inhabited? Or do you rejoice because these ‘bars’ were a light-hearted way of showing the fact you were partial to a bit of a party?!
